A gift to this fund provides needed general help to the College of Business Administration, enabling it to lend support to areas, projects and programs of greatest need.
Logan Groesser was always a stubborn kid.
The Omaha native knew the importance of building himself through hard work and perseverance. Those values were instilled in him through his family. His father came from a Nebraska farming family and his grandmother emigrated from Japan in the late 1960s.
“I grew up with this very mixed background,” Groesser said. “I had these traditional American values as well as these overseas ideals and other values that came from my grandmother and mother.”
Even so, it took time to find his direction. Growing up, he hovered between careers like paleontology or law. Nothing seemed to fit.
“I loved dinosaurs and I loved research,” Groesser said. “But I then I realized I hated bugs and being underground.”
It finally clicked for Groesser when he sat down for his first financial literacy class in high school. Not only was the class interesting, but the material came easy to him. So, he decided to explore courses in marketing and accounting.
He found himself struggling in his first accounting course. It took a nudge from his teacher to unlock that stubbornness Groesser grew up with.
“The teacher told me that I wasn’t taking this seriously and would fail their class,” he said. “I’m stubborn, so I said, ‘No I’m not.’ I came back and finished with a 103 out of 100 in that class.”
That push from his teacher helped him realize he could never settle for a career path where there wasn’t room for him to continue to grow. Since then, Groesser has continued pushing himself.
Since transferring to UNO’s campus, Groesser said he immediately felt a strong connection to the school, thanks in large part to the faculty, staff and students who bring the school to life.
Today, Groesser is a senior studying at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s College of Business Administration School of Accounting.
“Accounting is what I love,” Groesser said. “It’s what I live and breathe. I’m just overwhelmed with the amount of thankfulness and happiness I have to be in this position.”
Groesser is currently executive vice president of the UNO School of Accounting’s Beta Alpha Psi Chapter, which is an international honor organization for financial information students and professionals. He also volunteers his experience during mini-camps and summer camps held by UNO’s School of Accounting meant to spark interest in accounting among Nebraska high school students.
Groesser said the initiative provided him with the chance to inspire a new generation of students to pursue a career in a field that has already given him so much.
“Having kids come from all over just to show they were so passionate about business was so awesome to see,” he said.
As Groesser reflects on his time at UNO, he’s thankful for the life-changing opportunity the UNO’s School of Accounting has provided.
“I am extremely thankful,” he said. “To have a school whose donors and alumni are so willing to give back so we can hire these amazing teachers and set up these student organizations for success is just mind-blowing.”
